On the Atchison, Topeka and the Santa Fe        Mercer/Warren

A great old "show tune" from the movie of the same name,
starring Judy Garland.   I don't do the song the same way
she did, but however it's performed, you gotta like this song.
One of the Johnny Mercer classics.

Do you hear that whistle down the line
I figure that its engine number 49
She’s the only one that’ll sound that way
On the Atchison, Topeka and the Santa Fe

See the ol smoke risin round the bend
I reckon that she knows she’s gonna meet a friend
Folks round these parts get their time of day
From the Atchison, Topeka and the Santa Fe

      Here she comes!
Hey Tony, yuh better get the rig
She’s got a list o’ passengers and it's lookin pretty big

And they’ll all want lifts to the Harvey Hotel
Cause lots o’ them’s been travelin for quite a spell
All the way from Phil-a-del-phi-i-a
On the Atchison, Topeka, and the Santa Fe

Oh the roads back east are mighty swell
The Chesapeke, Ohio and the ASL
But I make my run and I make my pay
On the Atchison, Topeka and the Santa Fe

In this day and age we don’t leave home
But if you get a hankerin and you wanna roam
My advice to you is to run away
On the Atchison, Topeka, and the Santa Fe

      Well here we come
She’s really rollin down the line
      We’re a huffin and a puffin on ole 49

When I’m old and gray and settled down
If I ever get the chance to sneak away from town
Then I’ll spend my bustling holiday
On the Atchison, Topeka and Santa Fe

On the Atchison, Topeka,    The Atchison Topeka,
The Atchison, Topeka, and the Santa Fe
