The first of those in the Great American Desert to reach statehood, Kansas truly is "Where the West Begins." This CD celebrates the history of the 34th state, which gained statehood on Jan. 29, 1861. Kansas is unique among the 50 states, becoming a state at the most precarious time in U.S. history, just three months before the Civil War.
This CD celebrates the early history of the state, from the time of Coronado to the times of covered wagons, frontier forts, the Civil War, Pony Express, cattle trails, and cattle trains. You can learn through song the significant role this state has played in settling the West. This CD has thirty tracks with fifteen songs. The odd-numbered tracks are Jeff's narration of Kansas history that introduces each even-numbered tune.
